Designer Ethnic Clothing - my Dume Dume review

As a fashion-lover, I get used to seeing the same styles of clothing over and over again. By that, I mean - everything seems to look the same after a while. However, when I came across Dume Dume on Instagram, I literally gasped with delight because of how unique and ethnical their designs are. Seriously, Dume Dume should be on the cover of Vogue magazine, as they're such a unique and one-of-a-kind brand!

A bit about the brand- Dume Dume is designed by the awesome Jacqueline Ntephe, who is also the creative director behind everything the label stands for. Her aim is to use the brand to resurface and reimagine native Nigerian clothing and fashion, resulting in the first ever "Nwanyi" collection. Jacqueline was an apprentice to the Great British Sewing Bee finalist and designer Chinelo Bally, where she learned details about how to manage a successful brand and to make beautiful garments.

As such, Dume Dume's range of clothing is simply gorgeous and super ethnical, containing traces of Nigerian culture and lifestyle through their use of materials, cutting and style. I'm so excited to share with you 2 of my recent buys from Dume Dume. They are available on ASOS Marketplace, which is a lovely platform that offers shipping to the rest of the world.

1) Strapless Overlapping Dress - this is perhaps the queen of wrap dresses, as it's not only strapless but also features hooks where you can hook the two sides of the fabric together in any way you choose. If you're a size up, you can hook it using the wider hook. It is from the "Nwanyi'' collection designed for a flirty yet sophisticated look. If you're in between sizes like me, this dress is super versatile as you can adjust it to fit your body. I'm always having trouble with sizing, but Dume Dume really impressed me with this versatile and flexible dress.

The quality is fantastic- the Strapless dress is made from mixed materials which means that it's durable, sturdy yet super soft and comfortable at the same time. It's also wrinkle-free and has an inner lining, which makes the dress very luxurious to wear. It has a glamorous feel- I think this dress goes well with heels and a clutch, for a casual night out with the girls or for an flirty date night with your man. It also looks super fun to wear!

2) Halter Top with Ties- this is also a unique halter top, for it is very sexy and elegant, yet screams of sophistication. I love the material of this halter top, as it's made from a unique fabric called waxed cotton (ankara). The result is that this top is doubly-lined and looks fantastically structured, even if you're not wearing a bra. It is fastened by tying the rope around the neck and around the waist, and would go well with a skirt of ankle boots and jeans. I've styled it in a casual way, but you can dress this top up or down too!

Again, the fitting is excellent. I got a UK size 8 and it fits perfectly, and Dume Dume really hits the right spot in terms of cutting. All of their dresses and materials are so finely made and tailored to fit a woman's body, and it has such an ethnic vibe!

With 2017 coming to an end, it's time to upgrade your wardrobe with some unique statement pieces. Dume Dume is definitely one of my favourite brands this year, and I'd highly recommend them for the outstanding quality, design and prices!
