Have you ever wanted to spice up your room? Are you suffering from lockdown woes or need inspiration to decorate your house? Fear not, for I want to introduce you to my favourite way to decorate a home. Why not get a terrarium? These beautiful jars contain live plants and moss, and they actually require zero maintenance and effort.
I decided to add to my studio in Oxford with two lovely DIY terrariums from DIY Terrariums Shop, a lovely Etsy shop that sells terrariums of all shapes and sizes. The shop is owned by Poppy, who's super lovely and friendly. She's super kind to send me two gorgeous terrarium kits for my flat. They arrived in the mail perfectly and included everything I need to make the terrariums. There was some soil, a small fittonia plant, some ivy, a lovely rock, activated charcoal and some pebbles which added the final touches to the terrarium.
Shipping was extremely fast and secure, and nothing arrived broken (which is rare as I ordered plants online and the pots sometimes breaks). The packaging is extremely well done and everything came in little labelled packets, ready for assembly. The shop includes instructions so don't worry if you don't know how to make these things.
The first terrarium that I got was this lovely DIY Fittonia Forest Terrarium. I chose it because it looked pale pink and girly, and super beautiful. It was super easy to assemble and I spent around 20 minutes making it. Everything was very easy and Poppy included detailed instructions on how to put everything together. After all the work, here's what the adorable terrarium looks like! As you can see, I put the terrarium in a sunny spot next to the window so that the plant can get some light. It's really gorgeous and adds a chic flair to the house.
I love the fittonia plant that DIY Terrariums Shop included as it's super healthy and small in size. It's also really easy to care for as it is a water-loving which means that it's designed to thrive in a closed terrarium. I'd say that this little terrarium is one of the most stunning things that I've ever seen and it would make a lovely present for someone who just moved into a new flat. Poppy includes extra materials for the terrariums so you don't have to worry about not having enough material to fill the jar.
As for how it spiced up my studio, it definitely added extra style points as everyone complimented me on this terrarium when they visited my house. I love the contrast between the pink fittonia and white pebbles which means that the jar looks absolutely stunning, and there are lots to choose from on the brand's website.
The second terrarium was smaller. This
1L DIY Cork Top Terrarium is quite slim and elegant, and extremely easy to make. Due to it's small size, the jar can be placed anywhere from a countertop to a side window. I place mine on my desk sometimes, to admire it when I work. This terrarium took less time to make as it's quite petite, and it took me 10 minutes to put everything together.
What I love about the shop is that they provide the tools to assemble the terrarium, so I can do this without any problems at all. The plants they sent me- an ivy and small fittonia- was really healthy and perfectly sized for the jar, and after a few weeks of making this, they have grown up so much. I love how you can simply order everything you need from their shop, and the terrarium seems to be thriving so well.
