Some background information- a 'multi-room sound system' means that you can listen to music in several rooms at the same time. This means that your speakers are usually controlled by WiFi or Bluetooth instead of a cable, which allows you to control what you want to listen to via your phone or device.
A bit about the brand- August International is a UK based audio company that has a growing reputation as a provider of high-quality electronic products with the latest technology and advanced features. Wireless speakers, as part of the digital music revolution – are now one of the most popular products on the audio market. I've never tried one before, so this is going to be a completely honest review of these speakers. I've always wanted speakers for my dorm room at university, but with my limited space and tiny room, it's hard to find a speaker that works and produces good sound quality.
The August WS300 and WS100 with you because they're totally perfect for young professionals or students who want affordable, compact speakers with great sound quality. I've always wanted to find a speaker that works and produces good sound quality. These speakers came in a well-packaged box around a week after my order on Amazon UK.
Review of the WS300 and WS100 Speakers
Design: The WS300 is a big larger than it's counterpart, but both speakers are very compact and well-designed. It's no surprise that they feel great on the touch- they are smooth and the buttons are large at the top. The left-hand side of each speaker has displays of whether bluetooth or wifi is on, so it's quite easy to use. I like how the speakers look ergonomic and pleasing to the eye, and there's plenty of space for the audio to permeate as the panels wrap around the speakers. As for the charging port, it charges by USB, which is convenient and easy to use. The panel at the back is tiny, and I love the on/off button as it's so easy to turn on.
Sound quality: The quality of the sound is very, very good. I would rate it almost as high as full-sized speakers. It took some time to "break into" the speakers, but afterwards, the sound quality is excellent. The WS300 is more powerful so the sound quality is better for it. It's no surprise since you get what you pay for. With the price of these speakers, the sound was just as expected. They can even play bass really well- for bass-lovers, the quality of the bass will not disappoint. These speakers are much better than my old cheap speakers from Phillips.
Usability: I really like the fact that the panel at the top is so easy to use. The buttons controlling the volume and track are located at the top of the speaker, and it's really easy to just press the button when you want to adjust the song. I also like the fact that the speakers are just the right size- they can be carried around with you everywhere, for a hike, beach party or for a chilled night out. In fact, the smaller WS100 is the perfect portable speaker. They're perfect for student dorm rooms as they aren't large and is compact enough to fit on my bookshelf.
WiFi and Bluetooth function: The wifi and bluetooth functions work perfectly, and it's easy to use. The bluetooth function is simply what it sounds like- I use it frequently to connect my speakers to my phone. I even use the bluetooth function when I'm on my laptop. However, if you want to use the multi-room function you have to download an app from the App Store, which allows you to stream music from BOTH speakers at the same time from your device. It works well, and was quite straightforward to use.
Multi Room effect: This effect only works if you have Wifi. So it's a little inconvenient as you can't link up more than one speaker without a connection. It also doesn't work if you have a shared public connection which requires you to authenticate using an external username/ password. However, I think that once you get past these minor hurdles, the Wifi wireless system is great. The app I use to control the speakers- August Alink- allows you to "split" the left and right channels across different speakers, so this makes it extra cool.
Price: I have to say, these speakers aren't cheap! The bigger WS300 costs £100.00 and the smaller WS100 costs £80. However, they're bang on the buck as they are totally high quality. Definitely something for audiophiles.
