My Chair-Shaped Leather Phone Holder From Taobao

Hey everyone! Here's a mini Taobao haul that I did when I was living in Hong Kong. I didn’t plan to buy a miniature chair for my phone. In fact, if you asked me a month ago whether I needed one, I would’ve laughed! 

But Taobao does what Taobao does: pulls you from one listing to another until something unexpected slips into your cart. That’s how this saddle-brown leather phone holder turned up at my door. And the moment I unwrapped it, I realised it had more charm than half the décor pieces I’ve bought this year.

There’s something playful about an object shaped like a tiny seat—complete with a curved backrest and a flat leather surface that looks like it belongs on a café stool. 

I’m convinced no one uses Taobao the way they intend to. You start by looking at storage boxes or light bulbs, something harmless. Thirty minutes later you’re comparing acrylic trays, wooden coat hangers, and, apparently, miniature chairs for your phone.

That night, I was browsing for desk organisers when I saw a small thumbnail of a phone resting on a chair-shaped holder. I clicked out of curiosity, expecting it to be flimsy plastic. Instead, the listing showed a frame made of black steel wires bent into a clean, simple structure, topped with a square of brown saddle leather stretched across the “seat.” The mix of industrial metal and soft leather gave it a balanced look—like something you’d find at a Japanese lifestyle store.

The price was low enough that I didn’t need to think twice. Into the cart it went.

When it arrived, the size was exactly what I hoped for: small enough to look cute, but not so tiny that it felt gimmicky. The black steel wires formed a sturdy frame, and the leather seat had that smooth, warm feel you get from saddle leather. I pressed the centre lightly, expecting it to sag, but it stayed firmly in place. That alone surprised me.

The whole thing felt more expensive than it was, which is exactly the feeling that makes Taobao browsing addictive. This little chair solves that in the most amusing way: it turns your phone into a guest with its own seat. I didn’t expect to enjoy that as much as I do.

There’s also a quiet usefulness to it. When my phone sits upright on the chair, I can read notifications 

My desk is usually a mix of wood, paper, a laptop, and a few pens rolling around. Adding this little chair shifted the whole tone. It added a playful detail that didn’t disrupt the rest of the layout. It feels like one of those items that quietly complete a space. It doesn’t draw focus, but if someone notices it, they always smile. I even took a photo of it and realised it’s strangely photogenic. It looks good from every side.
