How To Style A Merino Wool Sweater- John Smedley Review

A merino wool sweater is a must-have for every women out there. It's versatile, it's chic and effortlessly stylish. A sweater is also essential for the cooler months, and can be worn indoors during the summer as we all know that sometimes it gets chilly at night. As a supporter of British-made clothing, I want to talking about my new sweater from John Smedley, a luxurious, home-grown label that specialises in UK-made clothing for men and women.

A bit about John Smedley- if you haven't heard of them yet, John Smedley is one of the oldest knitwear companies in the UK. The John Smedley factory prides itself on being one of Britain’s longest standing manufacturers, and it may be one of the world’s oldest factory . With everything made in the UK, the brand has seen four different generations of John Smedleys during its prolific lifetime. John Smedley is still based in their traditional area of Lea Mills. John Smedley’s family still owns the majority stake in the brand and they continue to make high quality knitwear for fashion-concious people.

I recently purchased a lovely Orchid in Eastwood Beige sweater from John Smedley and it is absolutely gorgeous. Firstly, a note about the quality. John Smedley's knitwear collection is extremely high-quality and the fabric of the sweater is just amazing. It feels very thin and crisp, but it is really warm when I put the sweater on. It's also not see-through like so many other merino wool sweaters.

As part of John Smedley's iconic range, this Orchid sweater is made from a 30 gauge merino wool knit. The higher the knit, the thinner and denser the sweater is. I chose this sweater precisely because it could be layered underneath a jacket or another jumper, and it definitely keeps me warm during the colder months. When I put the sweater on, I didn't feel any irritation at all and it feels extremely comfortable and soft. Most sweaters that I have that are made in wool itches, and this one just feels unlike anything I've ever worn.

In terms of the design and fit of the sweater, the V-neck design is really flattering and makes my broad shoulders look narrower. I chose this design because a V-neck sweater is really versatile and can match with skirts, trousers and pretty much any overcoat that you have in your wardrobe. All of John Smedley's sweaters are flattering and they come in different fits- slim fit sweaters are tighter and more form-fitting, just like my sweater; relaxed fit sweaters are loose but they can look chic and elegant as they drape over the body.

I absolutely love all of their designs, and their sweaters are basic wardrobe essentials that every girl needs. A cool way to style a merino wool sweater is tucked in to a skirt- when you pair it with some heels and a jacket, it will look amazing. Another way is to style it with a cool pair of trousers and some white trainers, for a more "street-style" look.
