Hey everyone! I've been back in London for a few days now and after a gruelling 14-hour flight, I had promised myself a proper massage. I really wanted to try a longer, two hour Thai oil massage since it's great for relaxation.
Last week, I finally booked one at Me-Thais in London after searching up websites about Thai massage in London, and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I have made all year. Here is a little, honest review of my experience!
Me-Thais- Location and Venue
One of the things that I found difficult when new massage studio is actually locating it. It's more of a problem in London, where things may be way off from a tube station. However, I didn't need to worry because Me-Thais was located 4-minutes from the Angel tube station in London. I came over from Paddington and it was a quick 20-minute tube ride, which was extremely smooth.
There was even a sign right outside their spa! Take a look below...
The studio is well signposted and the directions on their website matched reality exactly. I arrived about 10 minutes late but was greeted the moment I stepped inside. The receptionist confirmed my booking straight away, offered me a glass of water, and talked me through what my two hour session would involve. Within five minutes I had filled in a short consultation form noting the areas I wanted my therapist to focus on (my lower back and shoulders given my office job) and I was being shown through to the treatment room.
Decoration and Comfort
I absolutely love the homely and chic design of Me-Thais Thai Spa. It feels like home-that is the best way I can describe it. The lighting drops to a warm, low glow, and the air carries that unmistakable blend of lemongrass and essential oils. I really liked the minimalistic decor and how there are a few cute stools in the reception area for you to wait your turn. They even had little flowers everywhere and it really felt like I was back in Thailand in a mini resort.
The treatment room itself was spotless and clean, which matters a lot. Fresh towels, a properly padded massage table (not one of those thin fold-out numbers that leaves your back aching), and gentle spa music playing made it even more relaxing.
There was a bench for changing, and a few hangers for my clothes and my lovely massage therapist stepped out to give me complete privacy while I got settled under the towel. By the time she knocked softly and came back in, I was already really relaxed.
The owner really put a lot of work and effort into making this a sanctuary in the middle of London, and I was very excited to start the session.
Thai Massage
Now, I want to talk a bit about the actual massage that I had. Two hours sounds like a long time for a massage. But it actually flew by so fast.
My massage therapist (Amy) began with gentle and long strokes across my back while she assessed where I was holding tension. She found that I had tightness along the back, shoulders and neck. She was so attentive that she pointed out my right side was heavier than the left side. She spent a large part of the first hour methodically working through the knots along my shoulder blades and neck.
Thai oil massage is a wonderful hybrid and I personally prefer it over normal Thai massage: you get the flowing, soothing quality of a classic oil massage combined with the deeper pressure and gentle stretching that Thai technique is famous for. My masseuse hit all the right spots (which isn't easy- especially when unskilled therapists try their hand) and genuinely knew how to spot the tension spots immediately.
What impressed me most was the professionalism and communication of their staff. She checked in on pressure early on and adjusted when I asked for firmer pressure on my lower back. There were moments of properly deep pressure that hovered right on the edge of intensity, followed by slower, calming strokes that let everything release. I had a really relaxing time and I felt like my shoulders became brand new again after the session.
When she finished with massaging my body, she ended the session with a scalp massage. I genuinely could not believe two hours had passed by so quickly!
I walked out feeling extremely happy and relaxed, ready to go about my day in London.
So in summary, if you are debating between a one hour and a two hour session at Me-Thais, take it from me: book the two hours. It really allows time for something that restores your body better than any shorter session could.
I've tried so many massage places in London, and I have to say, this is the best I've tried. I'd highly recommend Me-Thais Thai Spa in Angel, London, and I'm looking forward to the next time I visit again.
