Honestly, I’ve been on such a journey trying to find a stylish but functional backpacks—something that actually looks chic enough for a boardroom but doesn't freak out the moment a cloud appears in the sky.
When I first got my hands on the Gaston Luga Spläsh Utility Backpack (16 inches), I think I actually felt glad because the aesthetic is just so spot-on. It has that effortless, Scandi-cool vibe that makes me feel like I’ve totally got my life together, even on mornings when I’m running twenty minutes late. The matte beige finish is so sleek, and I feel like it gives off this "modern professional" energy that my old leather bags just couldn't touch.
It comes in around 6 different colours, including this gorgeous brown that I'm in love with. In terms of looks, this has got to be one of the best-looking backpacks to ever exist.
I’m obsessed with how it handles my tech, too. As someone who is basically surgically attached to my 13-inch laptop, I think the padded compartment is a total lifesaver. It feels so secure tucked away in there, and I don't find myself constantly worrying about it knocking against my other essentials. I feel like so many "fashion" bags forget that we actually have expensive gear to carry, but this one really balances that utility with a look that’s quite street. Whether I’m heading to a coffee shop to crank out some emails or walking into a high-stakes meeting, I feel like this bag just fits everything well.
When it comes to travel, I honestly think the luggage strap on the back is the unsung hero of the whole design. There is nothing less "fashion" than struggling with a slipping backpack while you’re trying to navigate a busy airport terminal, and I feel so much more pulled together when I can just slide this onto my suitcase handle. It makes the whole transit experience feel so much more seamless and elevated. I think it’s those little intentional details that really separate a good bag from one that is great, for a busy, jet-setting lifestyle.
The waterproof material is another thing I’m just totally obsessed with. I think we’ve all had that moment of panic when it starts pouring and you’re carrying a leather bag, but with this, I feel completely invincible. The rain just beads right off that recycled material, which makes me feel so much better about my eco-footprint, too.
When I slide my tech in, I think it feels so much more protected than it does in those flimsy tote bags I used to carry, and I feel like the extra space around the laptop actually gives me a bit of a buffer for my charger and a slim notebook without the bag looking bulky or "stuffed."
I also think the way the bag sits on your back when it’s not totally maxed out is where it really shines for that fashion-forward look. I feel like some backpacks can look a bit "turtle shell" if they’re too big for your frame, but with a 13-inch laptop, the Spläsh Utility keeps its structured, slim profile. I honestly feel so much more professional walking into a meeting with this than a bulky laptop bag, and I think that silhouette is exactly why it feels so much like a high-end accessory rather than just a piece of work gear.
I honestly feel like I’ve finally found a backpack that doesn't force me to choose between looking like a fashion blogger and the practical workd...it’s just a perfect, versatile piece for work, travel, and everything in between.
