Livia - My Honest Thoughts On Period Pain and Endometriosis

Livia is a device that claims to stop your period pain once and for all. Does it work? Honestly, I can say that it does. I have been using my Livia for around 3 years now, and this is completely my honest thoughts. I would never recommend anything that doesn't work. I just want to talk a bit about the device and what it did for me.

I've been suffering from incredibly painful period pains for the past few years. Livia is essentially a TENs device which claims to alleviate period pain. Livia provides instant, drug-free relief from menstrual cramps. In the touch of a button, the wearable device stimulates nerves to block pain. It's used in a variety of situations but Livia has made this device perfect for girls- it's small, cute, pretty and totally convenient to carry around.

How a TENS device helps reduce period pain

A TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) device offers a non-invasive, drug-free approach to managing pelvic pain, with strong clinical evidence supporting its use for period pain (dysmenorrhea) and promising research emerging for endometriosis.

TENS uses a small, battery-powered device to deliver mild electrical currents through electrodes placed on the skin. Research indicates it alleviates pain through two primary mechanisms:

  1. The Gate Control Theory: High-frequency TENS activates large-diameter nerve fibers, which "close the gate" to pain signals in the spinal cord, preventing them from reaching the brain .
  2. Endogenous Opioid Release: Lower-frequency stimulation can prompt the body to release natural endorphins, its own pain-killing chemicals . Furthermore, the act of self-controlling the device enhances its pain-reducing effect compared to passive stimulation.
The evidence for TENS in treating primary dysmenorrhea is robust. A recent meta-analysis published in Medicine (2026) reviewed 13 randomized controlled trials involving 779 women. The results showed that TENS significantly reduces pain intensity and prolongs the duration of pain relief while also lowering the need for ibuprofen . Another study reported that TENS achieved a 53% reduction in pain compared to a placebo, with relief often occurring in under 20 minutes and lasting an average of 7 hours.

How Livia Works

Once I clip it onto my trousers and turn on the power button, the little buzzing feeling instantly relieves my cramps. It takes a while to get used to this feeling but it's virtually so light that you don't feel much. I don't really find it uncomfortable and use it when I sleep sometimes. It works well too!

It doesn't hurt at all, and it feels a bit tingly and funny at first. However, it's quite easy to use after. I'm so into this device and it really helps my period pain. I feel that my period has become much more bearable.

Thank you Livia, and I highly recommend it to any girl with period pains!
